Default Simple OMF Question

After looking in the ProTools reference guide without getting a clear answer, experts please clarify: If I want to import an OMF file (as a means to get audio data from I assume an AVID system) I will need the software add on Digitranslator 2.0 to do so. ProTools 6.9 (the version I am running on an HD1 system) won't natively import OMF files (therefore requiring me to get a $495 software product).
In addition I run Logic 7.2 which can import OMF files (again just to get audio). Is there a good way to import an OMF file into Logic and then get the audio into ProTools 6.9 in an elegant fashion (thus avoiding having to get Digitranslator)?
Thank you for any definitive answers!!

1) you need to pay

2) you will need to bounce the tracks out as complete files losing any handles that might be there.

get Digitranslator or install the demo if it a one off
Digitranslator would let you import OMFs from Logic minus automation

Thanks for the info Craig!
Not wanting to get on the "bashing Digi's pricing policy" bandwagon but I have a hard time believing that you need to spend a stiff $500 to be able to import a format that was developed (?) by AVID. Once a year maybe the need arises for me to import an OMF file so I can hardly justify Digitranslator. I don't understand why Logic can import OMFs "right out of the box."
While I'm venting, a few years ago I did purchase MasterlistCD for OS8-9 and I remember it was really expensive only to see it be discontinued before it ever made it to OSX. Again Logic has it's own CD mastering program bundled. Is Digitranslator being developed or will OMF soon be dropped? I now, Logic and ProTools are completely different and you can't compare.....
I guess I will find somebody who can convert an OMF to ProTools.

Download the demo. It will work for 30 days. This will get you through this years OMF import. Then wait for someone to sell one used and buy it for less money.

Just my opinion.

Pardon my ignorance but I have the Digi site and can't find the link to download the Digitranslator demo. Would you by any chance be able to provide me with the link?
Thanks a lot!

Another way, is to find an old computer that still runs OS 9 (not classic mode, you need true OS9) and use the old digidesign OMF Tool. It makes a Pro Tools 4 or 5 session, which is readable by modern versions of Pro Tools. I did this once in a pinch, after my demo died.

I hope my reply doesn't come too late...

You can get audio tracks from an .omf by using the Import Session Data function under the file menu. Find the .omf you need and it will pull up the same dialog box you would see if you were going to import audio tracks from another PT session. It will automatically find any audio tracks in the .omf and will give you options like sample rate conversion and timecode offset. One thing to watch out for is to select "Copy from source media" rather than "Link to source media". This will ensure your audio files stay with the PT session folder.

Zucky - you can only do that if you have Digitranslator authorized.

Get EDL Convert, and run it in Virtual PC.
It's half the price and does way more, and will save your session as PT's session.
What other file formats does logic export?
