Default Crash when bouncing with multiple 24fps video clips [UME-1676]

I have reported to Avid several times, that in sessions with multiple video clips at 24fps on a single timeline will play back fine, but when bouncing to disk with video, will repeatedly crash the video engine after the first bounce. This will result in the need to reboot between each bounce. Very time consuming.

This will happen ONLY when video is 24fps.

This is on a Mac Mini M1 with 16GB ram.

Super annoying for those of us that do commercial campaigns.

Jeffro?

By chance are you encoding h.264 on bounce?

Just curious because I am getting an AVE crash when bouncing to that codec on the same system.

Found your case and the CS rep was asking for media and/or more info. Did you see that case update email?

Yes indeed. H264 .MP4 or .MOV

Yes I did and was sent to Lois at support yesterday. I tried to send it via email, but file was a little large. Lois had me send it via wetransfer and I provided him the link in an email. Just seeing that other email now.

I don’t think it’s specific to just 24fps videos or having multiple videos on the timeline.

I do think this is a bug only with h.264 output, or if the original video is h.264.

In the mean time, Ive found a work around is to disable the video engine immediately after 1st bounce. Do not press play or do anything else other than go into the playback engine and disable AVE. Once disabled, re-enable and you should be good to go. You won’t have to relaunch PT after every bounce.
Hopefully this will work for you until there is a solution.

In this regard, I was able to switch to another session with H264 encoded media, the only difference being that it was a different frame rate. No issues whatsoever. Odd.

Also, thank you for the work around. I will give that a shot.

I'm having this same issue - on PT 2021.12.0

Did this ever get fixed?

I have simply switched to exporting h265 and the problem is solved.
