Default HD Driver 11

Hi All,

I just couldn't find an answer to the following question: for PT11HD on HDX do we need to run the HD Driver 11 package? Why is that driver separate?

Thanks!

Yes, the HD Driver is needed for HDX and HD Native.

Hold on.
I didn't install the standalone HD driver and HDX is running well.
In the past the standalone driver was for using HD cards without Pro Tools.
(And not recommended) as installing HD Pro Tools the driver was installed.

Has this changed?
Will/am I missing something and or will I break something by also installing the standalone-driver?

If I recall correctly, 11 will/can use the old 10 driver. So this must have been a system that had 10 on it, right?

So there must still be hope to get HDN working on my 2008 MP 2.1 with Lion 10.7.5. I know it's not qualified, but at least I could try 11 until the new Mac Pro's are available.

I have PT 11 running well with an 11 Rack but it won't recognize the HDN card and OMNI. Will do a full system re-install today to see whether PT 11 will see the card. My hope lies in the fact that the co-installed 10.3.6 also doesn't see the HDN card.

EDIT: and to stick to the topic you indeed didn't need to install the driver seperately with 10.3 it's included in its installer. My guess is that PT 11 doesn't install a driver due to the new drag and drop installer. So if you're running 11 only on your machine you need to install the driver first. The 11 manual states this.

I would like to have a clearer picture what to do when you install both 10.3.6 and 11. Do you use the driver installed by 10.3.6 or do you have to also install the 11 driver?

Just 11 driver and you're ready to go.

Yes undoubtedly on a supported machine but unfortunately not on an older unsupported Mac Pro I'm waiting for the new Mac Pro but had hoped to run it on my 2.1 MP under Lion 10.7.5 in the meantime.

PT 10.3.6 and PT 11 behave strangely when installed together on this specific Mac Pro:

Without HD 11 driver installed
PT 10.3.6 works fine and sees the HD Native hardware but PT 11 unexpectedly quits when trying to initialise the hardware in startup sequence

With HD 11 driver installed
Both PT 10 and PT 11 work but only see my 11 Rack hardware and won't see the HDN hardware.

Maybe someone finds a way of getting it to work but it's probably a no go with an older Mac Pro (rhyme unintended). At least I can test it and get familiar with it.
