M-Box with Dell Inspiron laptop-any success?

I am a TDM user, helping a friend to get going with Protools. He has an Inspiron 2500, with Windows ME. I know that he will need to upgrade to Windows XP to use the M-box, but there is this warning (which recently expanded from Inspiron to Inspiron AND Latitude models) on the Digidesign Compatibility page:

"Known Incompatibilities - Caution - Mbox is NOT supported on the following systems or systems with the following components:
… Dell Inspiron and Dell Latitude line of laptop computers…"

Searching through previous posts, I have seen occasional references to people being successful despite the warning, and wonder if anyone with experience in the situation can give any guidance. Does it just not work, or are there just some known and predictable problems, or is there some fix that has worked? Thanks in advance for any help.

i've been researching this topic as well. i just ordered a dell inspiron 8200. what i found out was that the incompatiblilty has to do with the SIS chipset that was used on some of the dell laptops. if the chipset isn't silicon integrated, it should work. i'm banking on the mbox working with my laptop.

I'll be glad to post back to the forum once i get the laptop. i've talked extensively with dell techs and they checked out the protools incompatibility list. they couldnt' find anything that didn't mesh.

also, i've checked with a dell user in Sweden who said he's running an 8200 with no problems whatsoever. he's got a P4, 2Ghz,1 GRam, 60 GHD. if you search the forum, you'll find his posts.

Yessss!!!! Please post back. I also emailed that guy from Sweden and he said he had succes with his 8200. I have a Inspirion 2650, P4 2gigs, 512ddram, WinXP, 40GHD and I'm just wating for the chance. Thanks for helping out in advanced!
