Fast Track Solo Not Working in Windows 8.1 Pro

Hi!

I've got a Fast Track Solo. It runs beautifully on my Win 7 laptop. I just installed the latest drivers on my desktop, a brand new Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit installation. No sound comes out of the Fast Track Solo, except an occasional short "blip" of distortion.

If I fully uninstall the Avid drivers and Fast Track Solo Control Panel, Windows 8.1 then recognizes it and I have sound for OS notifications (popup windows) and in VLC media player. But no sound in Windows Media Player, Adobe Premiere, or Pro Tools.

I've got it set to 48khz and 256 sample buffer in the Avid control panel. The settings in the Windows control panel are also 48khz, 24-bit.

Any idea what might be wrong? I've reinstalled a few times, tried compatibility mode, etc.

Correct. Control panel reads Package 1.0.4 and Firmware 1.0.2

I also tried the previous 1.0.2 version.

After hours of Google searching, I discovered a very odd issue. Some fast track devices do not work on a USB 3.0 port. I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port and it's *partly* fixed.

I have sound in VLC Media Player, Chrome (youtube), Pro Tools, Premiere and Windows notification sounds.

NO sound still in Windows Media Player. I can live with that, but I wonder if there are any other apps that won't work.
