Consolidate vs Duplicate - "Stereo" vs. Dual Mono Behaviour
Here's a little photo essay of screenshots showing a problem I've had for a while. I was hoping PT8 would have some better options, but I haven't cracked it yet.
What I'm after is: I want to use the "Duplicate" Audiosuite plugin to batch consolidate a bunch of dual-mono regions, but have the names come out in the stereo fashion as when using "Consolidate." There are various workarounds, but nothing time efficient that I've found so far. Any thoughts appreciated! Before consolidate or duplicate After consolidate - note "stereo" config After duplicate - note dual mono config & name The "right" side as above Region by region duplicate with similar results "Right" side as above EDIT: ps - the best I've come up with so far is: Copy the 2 mono tracks to a stereo track Consolidate the whole stereo track from bar 1 to the end. (This gets the names right by adding the .L and .R suffixes) Do a new Strip Silence using -96db strip threshold (the min) and 4000ms min strip duration (the max) Export the resulting regions as stereo interleaved Of course this doubles the required disk space.

Re: Consolidate vs Duplicate - "Stereo" vs. Dual Mono Behaviour
Have you tried just selecting all the relevant regions in the timeline so that they are highlighted in the region list, then export them as stereo interleaved and re-import them.
You could then, if you wanted to retrieve the disc space, delete the originals and the interleaved exports as PT will have to copy them on import as the are interleaved rather than .L & .R multi-mono. Probably quicker than re-naming all your regions with .L & .R suffixes (i.e. "Stereo 01.L" "Stereo 01.R" then "Stereo 02.L" "Stereo 02.R" etc) and dragging them onto a stereo track. Hope that is what you meant. |

Re: Consolidate vs Duplicate - "Stereo" vs. Dual Mono Behaviour
Thanks for the reply Carl.
However, you can't export as stereo interleaved unless you first have the ".L" and ".R" suffix. I'm not renaming the regions manually - that's the point of the consolidation operation vs. the "Duplicate" Audiosuite plugin. I'm consolidating so that I don't have to do the painstaking rename process. What I'm after is what the "duplicate" operation does - but with the renaming effect of the "consolidate" operation.

Save yourself a headache and get QuicKeys... write a macro to rename the regions.

Re: Consolidate vs Duplicate - "Stereo" vs. Dual Mono Behaviour
You don't need QuicKeys for this, all you have to do is as follows:
1. Select everything in your two mono tracks and copy it to a new stereo track. 2. Select everything in your first mono track. 3. From the edit window, choose Strip Silence (you aren't actually going to strip silence though). 4. In the Strip Silence window choose "Rename". 5. Give the files what ever name you choose, start number as one and suffix as ".L" 6. Select everything in your second mono track. 7. In the Strip Silence window choose "Rename". 8. Give the files what ever name you choose, start number as one and suffix as ".R" JOB DONE! This takes longer to descibe than it takes to do. Sorry about my earlier response. I had a brain fart there, as you can select the files for export from the copied stereo track and choose "Stereo" - but the files are still mono in the end (I'm a dipstick!). Cheers! |

Re: Consolidate vs Duplicate - "Stereo" vs. Dual Mono Behaviour
How can I remove .L .R suffixes in thousand of file names after stripping a stereo files into two mono files ?
Auto rename does not suppress the suffixes !!! This is a bug ! |
