Default PTLE Hangs after about an hour

I am running a G4 500 Mhz dual processor w/256M ram on a Mac V9.0. I am using PTLE 5.1 with the Digi 001. The problem I am having is when I am recording or mixing, after about 1 1/2 hours (almost like clockwork), the computer hangs. I've been doing different things at the time, so I haven't pin-pointed any particular thing that may be causing this. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks Vesg

The best possible thing you could to do is to use your computer for PT ONLY! I have a G4/466/384 and nothing else but PT, Quicktime and Toast on it. Format your drive, do a clean system install and select basic OS. Then get rid of anything you don´t need for running PT, like ATI drivers, disc light, all the internet stuff, turn off the sleep function, set your internal memory to less than 512k and you shouldn´t have any major problems. Using the computer for internet, photoshop, having scanners hooked up, playing games and such really can foul up running PT.
Greetings, good luck,
George

Thanks for your response. I am using this computer for PTLE only. I disabled many of the extensions that I am not using, such as the internet and many others. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks again...

USB extension conflicts are a main cause of "freezes after about an hour." Remove any unused USB drivers from your extension set. If all else fails - clean install - which is fairly easy on a music only system.

I have the same system, and had the same trouble. After a clean install, I now sometimes have three or four other applications and the internet running while I'm in ProTools with no problems. Try the 9.1 upgrade too. Good Luck...
