Default Windows XP requirements for NEWBIE

Im about to purchase Digi OO1 online. The unit includes 5.1 upgrade. I read about 5.3 situation for XP on another thread. I have WindowsXP on a very very fast HP Mediacenter,, P4,2.5Ghz,512,etc,, just want to ask IF THERE IS ANYTHING I NEED TO BE AWARE OF WITH XP (ver. 2002 - media center edition -service pack 1). I would appreciate any tips from you great folks so I can avoid first day setup blues and chaos. Im crossing my fingers that someone doesnt have some grim news about my setup.

BTW, Im handing off my Korg D16 (paid $2k at time) to my sister and switching to DIGI 001 so I can have better track editing via my PC and the protools. The D16 was a very impressive recorder, but virtually no editing functionality. I tried using the SPDIF to move tracks to a PC based editor. The Pinncale card that came bundled was rather pitiful. Just basically a major malfunction on my part choicing a setup. I also made a very very lame choice in software via a purchase of Turtle Beach DOP. After an hour conference with a studio engineer (150.00 hour) I was given the advise to simply move to the DIGI001 and edit in the PC and basically just bypass the KORG. I wouldnt mind, of course, keeping the D16 and using some integration possibilities, but after just building my floating studio behind my house Im pennyless and must make a trade.

You should start here:

http://www.digidesign.com/products/digi001/

Windows XP Media Center is not supported for PT LE 6.1 or 5.3.1. I would recommend starting over with a fresh install of XP pro/home with SP1...

Riad,

Thanks for the info. I did take a look at the compatibility lists on the link you suggested. I did not see any problems with my system. Maybe I overlooked something. Im going to look at it again.
Thanks. dave

Hmmmm. Yeah, I was afraid my HP would not work. Just my luck. I cant believe I picked the SINGLE ONE SYSTEM to not work with it. This is a major blow to me. I just realized this model IS in the Pavillion line of PCs. I think I'll go ahead and just try it out and see if I get lucky.

Yeah stranger things have happened. Just make sure you keep your BIOS settings real simple and clean... disable everything not absolutely needed (printer ports, serial ports... stuff like that) and see what happens.

The same thing happened to me... I had a dual processor AMD and PT 5.3.2 didn't work with dual processor systems so I build a new Intel system and two weeks later they came out with PT 6.1 that works supports dual processors... it happens.

Riad, Oh god, how frustrating!! I can imagine how you felt. Im emailing back/forth with my producer to see which he prefers, a MAC or PC, since they will be getting the PT files and working on them remotely.

BTW, everything else on the COMPATIBILITY PAGE was OK, I just happened to open up the SYSTEM INFO on my HP and saw under SYSTEM MANUFACTURER, the dreaded word....Pavillion...AHHH!!!!! I absolutely, honestly had no idea I was purchasing in any remote way a Pavilion. Very disturbing. But...but...Pavilion is not on the PC case, so Im hoping since this is a REALLY beefed up, totally new PC, it may just skirt any problems. Would be a real shame too, because this system is a rocket.

Robert, Im not sure exactly why your coming up under RIAD, so sorry for the name mixup. I may try to upgrade to XP Professinal. Can I do a "stand in" place upgrade from the XP Media Center edition? Im just wondering how much of a risk and hassle doing the XP Pro upgrade would be.

Just a follow up to anyone who cares (tie a yellow ribbon). I managed to load the Digi card and Protools onto my HP with XP media edition. So, far everything appears to be working. Remarkeably, had not one problem loading up. Can open and close sessions. can record, etc. Now, I am running 5.3 and I am wondering if I will begin to have trouble if I upgrade to 6.0. And should I upgrade to 6.0? Anyway, Im just wondering if Im getting all excited but about to encounter some big bug when I do something I havent done yet. I feel like the road runner anvil is about to come swinging into my skull any sec. Should I be nervous?
