Default REALLY hot ouput

We have a new console coming in and the old one is moving out so right now we are just mixing inside the computer. I am finding that I have to turn the faders inside PT waaaay down because it is so loud. I've tried to compensate by turn down the gain on my monitors but it is still just over the top loud.

Any ideas?

are you using -10 or +4? A +4 going into -10 will have alot of gain.

What are you using to control your monitors? You just can't run the output of a PT interface directly into powered monitors.

There are a lot of products available these days -- high end stuff from Grace, Studio Technologies, etc. If you want something less expensive, you might want to check out the Mackie "Big Knob."

Adding to Lee’s post, here’s a link to a thread discussing this topic:

El Linko Muy Bueno

Also…

While I don’t recommend it, you could - as a temporary measure - place a ProTools master fader controlling the output to your monitors. Be very careful - one false move and you could blow your speakers.

Thanks for the suggestions. This raises a follow up though. I really like the Avocet but how could I or better yet would I still need/use it when my D-Command comes in? IE: will there still be a need or use at that point?
