Default Re: Monterey is now available

Moogerfogger was crashing my Mini/Big Sur rig well before the last updates.

I did a clean install on the new MBP and it’s stable so far with both .10 and .12 PT. Xpand was giving issues previously so I didn’t put it on the new install until I knew the rest worked. I’m fetching that now. Waves runs as expected though the Soundgrid server clients won’t load. Native processing appears to be as expected.

ETA:
Spitfire BBCSO and Labs working after following instructions at Spitfire for hosts running in Intel mode. Plenty of info about it there.

Xpand is running what I need it to now.

A good many (most, all?) plugs from the Avid download pack got moved to the unused folder. The warnings and option to move right then is a great feature.

Relab's 480L plugs run as expected.

Don't have any UA interfaces to try on this machine, they're all on production machines.

Haven't tried any East West/Hollywood packages, they're all locked to production machines. I've been wanting the horns and background vocals to use on personal rig for a while.

If it's the primary money making machine(s) I wouldn't upgrade. We're integrating 3 larger HDx/S4 rigs and an S6L rig right now. They will live the foreseeable future on the last Big Sur, likely 5 plus years. If it works, provides the feature set and interoperability and makes money don't change it.

Excited to hear how MacOS 12.1 goes with Protools 2021.12. I now it is not going to be certified as compatible anytime soon but it will be good to hear how the issues are addressed. I'm holding an 11.6.1 for now.

Off the top of my head, these seem to be ones users have reported repeatedly in recent updates:

Memory leaks
Plugin compatibility (and error handling at startup)
Specifically Avid's Complete Plugin Suite
Video import
GUI Lagginess
Screen freezes
MP3 import corruption

So far a complete disaster.

Ran 12.1 update and upon reboot was presented with this:

Apparently firmware is now trashed. Following the directions at that URL now that involve tethering to another mac running Apple Configurator 2.

That's a massive pain. Sorry, Apple devices have always had the tendency to brick when upgrading firmware. They could learn from RME. And firmware upgrades are one of the reasons that MacOS updates take so long these days.

Running Apple Configurator 2 and doing a DFU restore isn't very complicated, but it needs a specific cable between the machines. I think any TB equipped Mac will do it.

I've been running 12.1RC2 for a few days which appears to be the same as today's release. (21C52)
Memory leaks are gone for me, but some people are still reporting them.
Avid complete bundle still doesn't work.
Can't comment on the rest.

Avid came out with this announcement re: Media Composer, Widows 11, Apple Silicon and Monterey. But what about ProTools?

The video said Media Composer runs on M1 but did not say natively or via Reosetta2. Glad to hear it is supported in Monterey. Let's hope Protools gets the love soon.

Just got my m1max laptop today and it shipped with 12.1. I just opened it and put my head down and installed everything and didn't even think... oh **** is this even compatible? (my main working system is 2 OS's back and stable). Everything installed and is working minus some avid plugins. I can't get UHE diva to load in protools. Works fine in every other DAW I have installed. I load up Omishpere and play a patch and its taking the M1 max to its knees so something obviously isn't right but 98 percent of my plugs load and run. F I really don't want take this thing back an OS.
