Dance Vocal Treatment
During the last week. I have read 1000s of messages about vocal recording and manipulation in this web group. I am new to Pro Tools TDM and I am trying to learn how to create original vocals and catchy vox effects for a club tune I am working on.
Anyway, here is a summary of what I have learnt until now. Essential plugins needed when treating voices: Compression to the vocals (from for example Waves C4 any other useful ones) Some De esser (eg Waves de esser) Some reverb (eg. from lexiverb) Is there any point in using Aphex exciter on voices? or any other plugin? Tricks and Fx. Auto-tune at extreme levels. (Cher fx) Filter cuts (using Filterbank EQ) Chopping the audio with a tool like GRM Tools shuffler) Reverse reverb for phantom effect on voice. Double the vox with one take panned L and the other panned R. Use a harmoniser (any recomendations?) Does anyone have any other suggestions? One more thing. Does anyone know what type of treatment euro-dance tunes use to make the vocals sound so nice, wide and exciting. (Eg. DJ Sammy, Gigi D'Agostino, Delerium) Thanks for the help. Re: Dance Vocal Treatment
run vox through ampfarm or Sansamp. I highly suggest you get ahold of Wavemechanics Soundblender! Try crushing vocals through an L1 limiter.

Re: Dance Vocal Treatment
A good singer <-- very important.
This is very subjective but talking as plugins I always ended using: Compressor: BF Fairchild SweepFilter Stuff: GRM BandP Cher **** : Auto-Tune Harmonize Fx: Prosoniq Orange Vocoder Here and There: Waves MetaFlanger Elvis Delay: tel-ray Deesser: The Waves one, but if really necessary, since I dont use a lot of Reverb I dont have problems with it. Eq: anyone should should work fine, unless you have a terrible tone singer, but it will not make any miracle anyaway. Pultec is better for it's naturality in most cases. the rest is creativity cya

Re: Dance Vocal Treatment
pingpongdelay with dotted 8th's 15-20% feedback,
big hall reverb, spread with a very short 18-30 ms delay, no fedback or pitchshifting a few cents and hardpanned. doubletrack and harmonys that should be plenty. |

Re: Dance Vocal Treatment
Try using the stereo dpp-1 with +9 cents on the left and -9 cents on the right. Maybe try an 11 ms delay on one side and a 22 ms delay on the other side.
Also if you like this sound you could play with bussing some reverb back through this same effect. |

Re: Dance Vocal Treatment
I heard of a technique that sounded like a great idea but i've never heard the results and think it would onlybe an expensive setup that could achieve it. You split the vocal up into 3 frequency bands (if i remember correctly its about 200Hz and below 200Hz - 5kHz and all the rest at the top) Then heavy chorus/flange on the top end only, feddback delay on the mids and i'll be honest in saying i forget what was to be done with the bottom!) - much experimentation needed. Good luck.
