My Windows 7 PTHD 9.0 system is rock solid and I have mixed some heavy feature film projects without any hiccups!
Ignore what the Mac guys say. They surely haven't used HD on Win7 and quite likely haven't used Windows since 95/XP (or Vista) days. Windows 7 is a fantastic OS for audio production, there really is no need to get a Mac these days. Pro Tools 9 is supported on Windows 7 and there is a good reason why.

I have been using PTHD 8 on Win 7 just fine. Rocks! Very stable, everything works great. Plus, CD Architect and Sonar work on PC, and the CD drive has an eject button on it.

Actually - I think Windows 7 is the ONLY Microsoft Operating System which runs PT 9. This is from Avid's website under "System Requirements"...

Windows Systems
Computer: Avid-qualified Windows-based computer (see details)
System Software: Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate (32 or 64-bit)
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is officially qualified with Pro Tools 9.0.2
Total System RAM: 2GB minimum, 4GB or more recommended

I'm having problems installing PT HD8 on an older Pci-x HD3 system in Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
Spent all day trying to make it work and also tried the different updates and still no luck.
The same system works perfectly in XP and in Snow Leopard.
I even tried different cards and combinations and still no luck. Looks like a driver issue, as sometimes it loads the accel cards and sometimes not, but never the core card, it gives a weird DAE error and claims the flex cable is wrong.
I guess the Pci-x / PT HD8 / Win 7 64bit combo is a no go for me. And it's a real bummer since I wanted to use the 64bit memory for Virtual Instruments.

What Hardware combination are you guys using?

My test system:
Asus P7P55 LX
6 GB DDR3 Ram
PCIx HD3Accel
192 8x8x8 Interface
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Why not get PT9 and re-check if the flex is in fact correctly connected. Also I would just run the core alone and take other cards out to rule out bad flex cable/connector issues.
