cheers,
right now i just have my 'control room' and 'live room' but i am getting this one room that's all cinder block walls with a concrete ceiling (under the front steps) that i am going to be turning into an iso booth, then i'm building a wall across my live room so then there would be like a hallway seperating the control room and live room, and i am going to wire everything up nicely then i want to bump up my prices.

Matt,

Often when studios like that open up these days in the U.S., there lives tend to be short...too much overhead and debt. However, I'd recommend having a lunch meeting with the guys...work out a "deal" price for you to rent their space or gear when you get a group that needs something of that size...or when you want to "borrow" a mic/pre or two. It's been my experience that becoming good friends with the competition is often more fruitful to your own business (and theirs) than viewing each other with disdain. Let's say they (or you) wind up getting a couple of really good gig's that lock out the studio for a month or more...the spillover will go to the other party. Making friends with them will only ensure that each of you manage to maximize what work the two of you can get as referrals tend to go to friends first.

Cheers,
Chris
