Default New 2013 iMac and Protools 10 compatibility?

Hello,

I am thinking of changing my iMac for the new one (called late 2013) mounted in core i7 and with a 3To fusion drive.

I will downgrade the system to mountain lion (maverick not supported by Protools yet)

I would like to be sure it will work fine with my audio configuration DIGI003 and Protools 10.

Is there anybody with this configuration that can confirm it works well?

Thank you for your help,

Alexandre

Hi

You are going to have lots of issues from the Fusion Drive as many many many people have posted error messages and crashes etc with iMac and dusion drives. Alot of people have posted this all over the internet and contacted Apple aswell as Avid so if this purchase is going to happen soon, get an SSD 512 GB Drive or as big as you can afford or a WDC Black 2-3TB drive as OS drive and an extra external drive for recording to. Very important and needs ro be installed from the start.

Absolutely no "Green" or "Blue" drives at all as they are toxic to PT so the Black 64MB cache in 1-2-3 TB or SSD OS.

Stay away . Far away from fusion drives, otherr than that the iMac late 2013 will be a really sweet machine Make sure you have minimum 8GB ram but as members here will say, don't get less than 16GB for better performance.

Thank you Christopher for your answer !

So no fusion drive…

Even if all the PT recordings are made on an external HDD?

No Fusion drive at all.

I don't recall reading about anyone who have had a good experience with PT and fusion drives weather it's the OS drive or for recording so skip that and do the right setup from start.

Just google fusion drives and mac pro tools and see for yourself

It's a bloodbath.

Also, I don't think it's possible to downgrade the OS.

I will then stay with my mid 2010 iMac for the moment.
(I was thinking of the iMac change because the display of my current iMac died)

The New iMac + the 512 SSD Option + an external thunderbolt HDD for recordings … I can not afford it for the moment… Must save a bit of money first.

Will wait and see after the Mac pro is released…

For the moment I will repair my current iMac (found a display for not too much money). As it is open, I was thinking of upgrading it…

I have for the moment the original HDD 1 To…

Why not replacing it by a SSD and add an eSATA port for an external fast drive…

Christopher, as you seems to have a good knowledge on all of that, what Brand / model of SSD can you advise me ?

Thank you again for your help,

Alexandre

Hey

Sounds like a plan as long as your cpu and everything like RAM is up for PT and specs needed.

I know lot's of people us included have had sweet success with Samsung 840 Pro and for the recording / session drive you cant go wrong with a WDC Black. Has to be the Black model and it comes in 1/2/3 TB with 64 MB cache. Cost around 85-90 USD and that drive is a great Arddrive.. If you feel the SSD Samsung 840 Pro is too expensive they have an ECO version but DO NOT get the 840 normal drive of the SSD and NO green or blue WDC drive. They will only make new problems for you.

There ya go

Hope that helps out a bit
Best Regards
