Default How do I change Tempo's throughtout a song in PT 8?

Hi,

How do I change tempo throughout a song in Pro Tools 8?

I am working on some songs and I want it to slow down and then pick back up in the middle of the song.

Hope someone can help?

Thanks,

Craig

check out the section in the manual for the tempo editor, beatiful part of the screen you can draw your tempo in or edit it like volume automation in tracks, or type in the bpm you want for "this" many bars. many ways to do it.

I am having an issue with tempo automation. I can only edit the ENTIRE tempo faster or slower.

It highlights the section to be changed , but when I drag up or down that highlighted section, the entire part moves. Have you got a solution to this?!

Also, the pencil tool is faded out when I try and mark in the point of change manually, it only works in the multi tool!

Cheers!

Just went through this issue so even though this thread is old I'm adding my resolution to the faded out pencil problem for others to find in the future.

Even though the manual I have doesn't appear to say this (that I could find anyway), make sure the conductor button on the transport window is activated and then you can insert tempo events like the manual describes (and the pencil will look normal too).

I am having the same issue. I have recorded the song, but it just feels like it's dragging. I want to increase the entire tempo, but when I change, only the drum track changes. So someone told me to make sure everything is in ticks and not samples, but this didn't make a difference. Any help would be awesome.

havin' all your trax in 'ticks' mode should allow your session to follow your tempo changes for the session. so if you change the tempo at the conductor or if you have it manually set, the session should follow as long as your trax are in ticks mode. not sure why that's not workin' for you

You can also automate tempo from the dropdown tempo menu as seen here:

Putting your tracks into tick based is correct but that'll only effect midi unless your audio tracks have elastic audio enabled. Hope that helps.
