Default having problems with my new control surface

i recently purchased a tascam fw1884 and protools 8 will not let me use it for controlling my mixing i have updated all my software for protools 8 and the tascam but every time i go to periphials to connect the board i get check hui power cycle and i just don't know what the hell that means. i am running windows vista 32 with protools 8 i use a mbox 2 to connect the board through the digital in and outs everything else i want to do with the board i can do except control my mixing. it never lets me get that far before i see the above message if anyone has a clue i will be forever grateful.

How is the board connected to your pc?

Just connecting it to the mbox isn't going to do anything.

its connected through firewire to my pc. its connected to the mbox through digital spdif

HUI is Midi mapping protocol... connect the fw1884 via midi cables.

if you're running pt8, i've had similar issues with hui control. on the digidesign website, there's a patch for legacy midi controllers - protools 8. mackie hui control is listed among them. if you connect your controller via midi and still have these problems, try this patch.

One thing that is incorrect in that older document from Tascam is that you need to download the HUI controller profile. The "Legacy Controllers" downloads for Pro Tools 8 are the CS10 and PC1600 profiles. The HUI profile is automatically installed in your Controllers folder with all Pro Tools 8 installations.
