Default ProRes video playing back at wrong speed

Curious if anyone's run into this: Pulling a ProRes 4444 29.97 video into a Pro Tools session, and the video plays back at almost 1/2 speed. Frame rate settings are all correct. i can open the video in another app (Quicktime) and it plays correctly. I can transcode the video to DNxHD and it plays fine in Pro Tools. Oh, and it behaves the same on other systems / different OS/hardware.

Anybody know *why* this would be happening? I mean, I can solve by transcoding, but I've just never seen this before and wondering about an explanation.

TIA!
rich

Hi Rich, interested in the solution here (though I haven't come across this). And just so I understand, when you say "behaves the same" on other software etc., do you mean it also lags on the other software, or that it also plays normally as it does on QuickTime?

Maybe it's the color space...? Maybe not a recognized codec for pro tools? (In which case, transcoding IS the solution) - oh, and how does QuickTime identify the frame rate in its info window? Curious if other software "sees" it as maybe 59.94 or something like that.

This is clearly nothing more than "throwing spaghetti"...but just curious.

Thanks,

G.

Any clues in the movie inspector window in Quicktime? Has helped me on the odd occasion.

Plays fine in Quicktime, but same behavior on other Pro Tools rigs on different OS. Quicktime shows it as correct frame rate. Prores is a supported Codec (as far as I know). Anyway, I guess this is just gonna be one of those things as no one else seems to have seen this.
