Like I said, this is the type of bug that would NEVER have made it past a supervisor/ engineer who understood audio. But if youre a code nerd /accountant who cant hear the difference between an 1/2 inch master and two cans with a string, then hey! what difference does it make.....

You have a very valid point, Avid are just cutting corners and fleecing users right now.

By reading the 2020.5 release notes there is nothing about this terrible bug. Definitively the wrong daw for making music. At least for programming.

All I wanted to do today was insert 2 bars at the beginning of my project and add a drum fill for the intro. Quick and easy. Not.
After I inserted the 2 bars and adjusted the tempo by 1 BPM, sure enough I had to search through & realign random portions of every other MIDI (tick based) track.
I warned myself this would happen. Tick based tracks should always follow and stay aligned with the tempo.

Should we rename our complaint to a "tick" rounding issue?
Avid seem to be ignoring it since the sample rounding issue seems to be fixed for audio.
These issues are tick based.

AVID wants a video. What part of my case report do they not understand? Inserting tempos results in misalignment of tick based tracks.

Hello all,

So I finally decided to officially switch to another DAW. I will keep a license of PT 2020.5, let it expire and sell my Ultimate license. Avid is not taking MIDI seriously or is keeping it at the bottom of their priority list. If and when Avid decides to address MIDI bugs especially this one, I will gladly re-purchase an Ultimate license at whatever cost.

I will still be troubleshooting this terrible bug to see what else I can discover. I actually did find another workaround that works really well and will be posting it soon.

Sorry for those who cannot simple switch to another DAW, as there are many incredibles options out there nowadays. Let's continue to hope that Avid finally pays some attention to the MIDI bugs plaguing what can be the most beautiful DAW out there.

Since Take77 mentioned "Ticks" I went ahead and updated the title. Not sure if it changed it or not as am not seeing it reflected yet.

Is there a proper way of changing the title name?

It's cool Evermore, you don't have to change the title. I know everyone is on the same page on our end.
I think once there are replies the thread title can't be changed. But thanks for the thought.

Thanks for the info. I'll just leave it as is.

I'm glad am switching to another DAW as I continue to see more midi issues appeaer from users and saw no fixes for MIDI whatsoever in 2020.5

Actually, I'm not sure if it is fixed for audio... this is perhaps also a ticks vs samples issue, and maybe I should be more diligent about setting these types of tracks to ticks, but sometimes I'll have a kick or snare sample in the session as a short audio file, and when copying/trimming/tweaking/looping things, the grid misbehaves for these audio clips in the same ways that it messes up for MIDI. Inconsistently a few samples ahead or behind the grid, making it impossible to make a timeline selection and move multiple clips and samples in the way that I should be able to.

Honestly, if you want a video I'd be happy to make one too. I run into this problem all the time because one of the bands I produce has a lot of tempo and meter changes, so I could easily replicate it. Annoying that they don't understand the problem, but if posting incessantly on their forum and sending them videos of the problem is what it takes to solve it, then so be it

I'll be joining you in full if by the time renewal comes around this bug is still not fixed.

I already own Logic Pro X, Reason, Luna and an old version of MOTU DP (the upgrade to their 10.1 is reasonable too and the functionality looks amazing).......Studio One 4 will probably be the one although Logic Pro 10.5 is looking tasty!
