So I uninstalled the version downloaded from my Avid Account and followed the link above and downloaded that version.. Successful download, sitting in my Download file. Of course, ProTools 2018.4 when starting up, didn't download it. XPand!2 was ignored. I watched. And the plug isn't showing up in the plug in menus.. I seem to think there's a fix to this, but I can't remember.. Any ideas before I call the PT Tech One Time incident folks? I do have a question. If the version now downloaded is newer than PT2018.4, would that be an issue? Take care and thanks in advance for any insights

Sitting in the Downloads file is not installing it

Unfortunately, Xpand!2 version 18.3 doesn’t install the Presets (whereas Xpand!2 version 18.1 does), but while 18.1 remains unavailable in Avid Download Center, there’s still a workaround:

First install Plugin Boutique’s Xpand!2 version 2.2.7.21000 from:
https://help.pluginboutique.com/hc/e.../6232248078612
It’s VST/AU only – doesn’t include AAX – choose “Run as administrator”

Uncheck “Install Factory Content (choose location)” – just install the VST
Cut the Folder called “Presets” from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\AIR Music Technology\Xpand!2\Presets

Paste the Folder called “Presets” on your Desktop

Uninstall Xpand!2 version 2.2.7.21000 in Windows “Programs and Features”

Install Xpand!2 version 18.3
Double-click on the Xpand!2 Plug-In in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins
Double-click on the Contents Folder – create a 3rd Folder within the Contents Folder and call it:
Factory Presets
Rename the “Presets” Folder on your Desktop – call it:
Xpand!2

Copy this Xpand!2 Folder and place it in the Factory Presets Folder within the Plug-in

Cut the Xpand!2 Folder on your Desktop and paste it here:
C:\Users\Username\Documents\Pro Tools\Plug-In Settings

Success!! Thank you unkJE.... Thanks for posting clear steps for the work around.. There's was only one spot that was a little vague, at least to me!! After downloading 18.3 you instructed to "Double-click on the Xpand!2 Plug-In in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins
I never double clicked the Xpand!2 plug.
I wasn't sure what to do because I didn't see the Xpand!2 plug-in specifically when I went to the address on the C drive, I right clicked in the Patch Content folder, created that third folder Factory Presets, and carried on... I guess I was lucky because it's working..

Thanks again

Sorry for any confusion – the Xpand!2 plugin was probably installed in this Folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins\AIR Music Technology

Anyway - it's really good to read you got it working!

A few extra points:

I have AIR Instrument’s Samples on an external SSD with Xpand!2 located here:
Samples:\Sound Libraries\AIR Music Technology\AIR Content\Xpand!2

(The AIR Content Folder was installed by another AIR plug-in, so I just kept it)

Those who installed Xpand!2 via the Pro Tools Creative Collection will probably have a Folder named Xpand2. If so, add an exclamation mark – rename it: Xpand!2
This folder contains the “XPand2.big” file

Use 4 separate MIDI Tracks with one Instrument Track for Xpand!2

There are some handy videos, if you haven’t seen these already:
Pro Tools First Tutorial (Part 4) – Xpand!2 Virtual Instruments
https://youtu.be/eCmk1vk9aKw

Pro Tools 11/12 - #27 - MIDI Tracks and Channels with XPand!2
https://youtu.be/gE3WmwVxedo

Using Automation with Xpand!2
https://vimeo.com/channels/protoolse...usive/37422751

Control Automation with Encoder – set to 4 Encoders to CC111, CC112, CC113, CC114.
Right-click on any LEVEL Fader – select Learn MIDI CC.

For others who want to use Xpand!2:
On AIR Xpand!2 – InstallShield Wizard Custom Setup page - click on drop-down arrows alongside “Xpand!2 Plug-in” and “Xpand!2 Content” and choose for both:
“This feature, and all subfeatures will be installed on local hard drive.”
This will install the Content to:
C:\Program Files\AIR Music Technology\XPand2
To install Content elsewhere (such as a separate external “Samples” drive) – hit the “Change” button to choose your separate location

Once installed, click on ‘air’ (on the bottom RH corner of Xpand!2 plug-in in Pro Tools) to show which version of Xpand!2 you have installed

Note (with greetings and salutations!) to Sir jeffro:
If you replace the current AIR XPand II 2018.3 Win in Avid Download Center with AIR Xpand II 2018.1 Win, the Presets would automatically be installed (within the plug-in) here on Windows:
XPand!2.aaxplugin\Contents\Factory Presets\Xpand!2

Default xPand2 question

Thanks for posting the video links. I'm definitely gonna take a look..

While I'm here, maybe you have a quick answer to why the volume on the plug-in is so very low I can't even hear it? When Record enabled, I know it's sounding only because the meter bar reacts off the bottom of the Mix strip a tiny little bit. I've tried turning the volume up in the plug-in itself and of course, the channel strip volume as well, and that hasn't done anything. Is there a setting somewhere that I need to check?

Thanks again for your help on all this. take care

Low volume compared to what? If its the only thing you are listening to, then it might be as simple as turning up your speakers or phones. Or, what is the Velocity value for your notes? Click on any note and the Midi info window will show that value(if its above 85 or so, that should be good. If its well below that, some setting needs to change). If you are dropping notes with the Pencil tool or Smart tool, you can set the default Velocity value(and I would start at 100-105 until you find you need otherwise. A simple comparison would be to put up another Instrument track and insert MiniGrand. That seems to be a VI that makes for good testing on most things midi.

Yep - just 2 Instrument Tracks is all you need to test.

My guess – as you’re seeing some meter activity, but hearing nothing, is that you’re using a Keyboard Controller, without doing your Pro Tools MIDI Studio Setup. If so, from the Pro Tools Menu bar, go to:

Setup>MIDI>MIDI Studio Setup
Hit the “Create” button
Instrument name will read: “New Instrument 1”
Select your Keyboard Controller from the “Manufacturer” drop-down arrow – if it’s not listed, select “None” at the very top of the list
Select the Output Port from the drop-down arrow
Close MIDI Studio Setup
Hit “Save”

Also - in Pro Tools Setup>Preferences>MIDI, select (under Default Through Instrument) – “First selected MIDI track” - Hit “OK”

Close Pro Tools (Alt + F4)
Restart computer
Launch Pro Tools
Load Xpand!2 with one to four Presets
Hit a note on your Keyboard Controller to audition sounds
