Default Creating loops

I would like to create loop samples in ProTools for use in live performance on a Digitech JamMan Looper footpedal. The JamMan uses .wav files recorded at resolution 16, sample rate 44.1.

I have no problem creating the files in ProTools, bouncing them to disc in the appropriate format, and moving them into the JamMan.

The problem is this: When I play the loop back on the footpedal, there seems to be some extra "space" in the file, which renders the loop useless. To be useful, the loop must repeat IMMEDIATELY upon ending. If there is any hesitation--or "space"--the continuity of the loop is destroyed. With rhythmic material, this means that the beat is thrown off each time the loop repeats.

So my question is this: Is ProTools adding information to the file when it is bounced to disk that results in the extra "space" that seems to be on the file, or am I doing or not doing something that is defeating my own purposes? In other words, is it possible to create the kind of file I want with ProTools, or should I be using some other software?

I'm using LE 6.2.2 with an M-Box.

Thanks for any insights.

Default Re: Creating loops

As long as you're doing the edits correctly in ProTools, you should be able to create perfect loops. Are you using the loop playback feature in PT to make sure your edited files work well as loops first, before you bounce them? Also, when you bounce, make sure you're highlighting the region to be bounced, don't let PT try and guess what you want bounced, tell it specifically by highlighting the area/region.

Many thanks for your advice. Using loop playback and highlighting the selection to be bounced does indeed lead to perfect loops. Problem solved!
