Default 15\" Powerbook test results

I was wondering if anyone had any performance notes on the newest 15" powerbooks. I'm looking into replacing my setup (DP G4) with a more mobile setup, but don't want to get really [bleep] performance. Anyone?

Thanks,
matt

I have a 15" 1.5Ghz. It's fine for tracking, and simple sessions, but it's easily overwhelmed with lots of tracks and, for instance, Reason.

I just finished a session on my 1.33 ghz 15" PB that was 38 tracks (6 disabled) and 15 waves plugs- 1 trueverb, 2 6 tap dlys, and the rest EQ"s and comps. No problem- 3/5's CPU usage.

i have the alu 15" 1gh. i recently recorded 18 simultanious tracks at a live show for 3.5 hrs and it didnt even flinch. granted, i only use it for tracking so i wasnt using any plugs. after i track i go home and mix on a powermac g4. the most important thing that i have leanred about my pwrbook is that the power settings have to be set to highest performance. good luck. -jeff

System Preferences | Energy Saver | Options | Processor Performance
select HIGHEST

This runs the CPU at full speed all the time.

How many here are using the internal drive only for tracking and what buffer settings are you able to record at when using just the internal drive?

I use the internal drive at times. Usually I'm on an Mbox when I am and I can record the first 4 or 5 tracks at 125, the I have to up it to 512. Its not as bad with the 002, but I can't really compare because I usually have it on an external drive at that point,

This is quite a bit into the future from the initial post. But I just happen to be using a Powerbook G4 1.5GHz PPC with Leopard 10.5.8 in conjunction with an Mbox 2 with Pro Tools LE 8.0 and just wrote this post about my findings when attempting to update to later versions of 8.0: http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread...99#post1589499

Maybe there are a few people here in the future looking for this information?

Ciao
