Re: UAD test results Part II
ok merisblue, here ya go. these are my very non-scientific test results for the new UAD plugin update (v 3.6).
before i get into details, the main thing i noticed was no difference in performance at all from version 3.5.2 to version 3.6! really! my system: Mac 733 G4, 1012 RAM, 80 gig Glyph audio drive, OS 10.3.4, 002R, PT 6.4cs7, VST-RTAS 1.7, UAD 3.5.2 & 3.6. some tracks had only one plugin, while others had 2 or more in series. my system froze up at this point: 3 RealVerbs Mono-Stereo 1 Pultec Pro stereo 1 1176 SE 1 Trem/Mod/Echo Nigel module stereo 3 cambridge 2 LA2A PT CPU meter averaged out at about 30-35%. UAD meter read 77% CPU & 54% Memory. adding any more plugin's caused either an error message or an ouright freeze & crash. also interesting: everything was fine with the UAD CPU reading all the way up to 77%, but if at any point the memory use exceeded 54%, the system crashed, even if the CPU use was lower than 77%. at maximum, the mouse was a little sluggish and the screen redraws a little slow. and just to repeat: this was the exact same performance i got out of v 3.5.2! i was really hoping for an improvement... oh well. anyone else finding differences in performance after updating to UAD v3.6? or no differences at all? guess i need to keep saving my pennies for both a new G5 and a good native plugin bundle.

1 card, 44.1k 24bit, and no delay comps. buffer is 1024. what correlation have you found between buffer setting and UAD performance? i always keep my buffer high because i never monitor through PT and my computer is ancient.

merisblue:
i'll try that and see what happens. i'm having some funny stuff happen with nudging audio tracks to account for UAD latency. can i contact you outside of the DUC about this? i don't get the sense that many folks here are interested in this topic. you can email me - check my profile.
