live console for tracking

anyone use a live board like the VENICE or any other board for tracking? lookin for a solid front end to 001...need the flexibility so outboard PRES arent much of an option

The Midas Venice is an excellent choice for front end consoles. the preamps are superb. And you're right, there's not alot of decent choices out there.....

The Midas Venice is a pretty sweet board... There is a good amount of configurability and the sound is great (pres and EQs). From a tracking perspective, there is a jumper inside that you can move that allows the direct outs to be pre-fader. That is great for tracking as you can mix your stereo mix (for monitoring/doing a show, etc...) and it doesn't affect what is going to tape (er... Disc)
