Mbox family driver support for Mac OS Catalina

Will there be updated drivers for Mac OS Catalina? This is a very good product and still is one of the best audio interfaces.

I just checked out the avid end of life dates and the mbox 3rd generation has just ended its support on 8/30/2019. This sucks. I wil have to buy another interface. but I can keep this for this system for now. I just wont update mojave to catalina. Not an issue.

March 1, 2020 is the end of support date. That would mean we should expect a driver for the interface to work on Catalina right? I still love this thing and the utility/buttons it offers, and I have jumped through some hoops to keep it in my setup. Would be sad to have to replace it

So if my Mbox 3 is now past it's end date for support, is it safe to assume there will never be a driver for MacOS Catalina? Can anyone suggest a decent lower cost replacement which is supported?

Quick question as a new member: I have an Mbox Pro 3rd Gen with a listed end of support date of 3/1/2020, will there be drivers issued which are compatible with Catalina?

Hi and welcome to the Community

As of right now Pro Tools isn’t Catalina ready and doubt it will be soon so if they dont get PT Catalina ready before the EOL and EOS of the MBox you have then my guess is there wont be any Catalina driver for it.

No one here knows as its a user forum so if you want to be 100% certain it is best to buy a support ticket from Avids website and ask. I would ”hope” there would be one more driver update but as I said we don’t know as Avid never post these things upfront (which is not so good customer service) IMHO of course...

That's a shame. I'm stuck with a new 2019 MBP that can't downgrade below Catalina. I know I'll eventually get Pro Tools support, but my interface support is completely unknown.

While I would like to continue using my MBox Pro as a monitor controller, I may be forced to upgrade to something actually supported by Catalina. Looking at one of the Dangerous Music boxes.

It really is bad customer support. They say the device is supported until 3/1/2020, but there's no indication that they will actually update the drivers and controller software to run on Catalina. I'm afraid they will just wait out the clock and then say no Catalina support after 3/1 passes...

Can't say for the hardware but would guess not,
at least PT won't work yet for shure.

I logged a support ticket for this, and also posted on Avid Link. Let's not get our hopes up. The support could be interpreted by Avid as hardware support. But you never know...

On the long list of issues we'll likely have with Catalina, this probably falls somewhere in the middle.
