Midi program change on the fly
Does Protools allow me to set up some sort of "macro" type system to fire off midi program changes to outboard gear while recording. Is there a way that I can do anything like this without a midicontroler pedal.

Re: Midi program change on the fly
Gary,
1 way to do this would be to record the program changes to a specific midi channel. When you start playback that midi track would playback or send the program changes for you while you record into another midi track. Check out pages 207-211 in the pro tools reference guide for the specifics. B Carter Digidesign |

Re: Midi program change on the fly
Mr. Carter,
Does 5.1 comply with the now industry-standard insertion of MIDI events, including program changes and controllers? The procedure you are suggesting is quite cumbersome and limited for the more advanced programmers. Thanks for your support. ------------------ Marco Marinangeli Magelic Productions, Inc. Re: Midi program change on the fly
What I am actually trying to do is while I'm recording a show use protools to send off program changes. The trick is they don't occur at the same Timecode point everytime. I basically want to do the same thing that a midi guitar pedal does and switch outboard gear. Thanks

Re: Midi program change on the fly
Gary - you can send the program change on the fly without having to record.
Marco, with the addition of the midi event list you can now insert program changes, controllers ect. in PT 5.1 B Carter Digidesign |

Re: Midi program change on the fly
Unfortunatly I need to be recording while sending the program change.
My situation is this: I am recording 8 inputs into Protools for 60 plus minutes of a church service. There are 6 services that are identical each week. The music changes each week both in content and style but stays the same for all 6 recordings. I would love to change outboard gear by hitting a pre configured macro or something like that. Thanks |
