I just wanted to keep this thread at the top because it would have saved me hours of searching today... This fix has cured my startup issue.

I'm headed to the AES conference in NYC today. Maybe Avid can let me know in person when the next Beta for lion will come out.

None of these suggestions are working for me. And now PT 10 is out and they want another $299 for an upgrade? How about a 9.0.6 so that all the Lion bugs are fixed first please?

Wow, that sucks for me. I have bought Pro Tools 9 just 3 days before the eligibility cutoff for free PT 10.

Thanks! I've been troubleshooting for awhile and finally I found this fix! It is something to note that I don't use iChat, but this problem was also caused by the new iMessages Beta

I have the same problem.
PT9.0.6
Lion
Westmere 8core Mac
14 gig ram

It doesn't happen every time but almost.

I work with a lot of producers around the country and find iChat an easy way to link files.

I am experiencing this problem on Lion. Just started using iChat the other day and have no idea why. Couldn't even get into PT 9.06. Have uninstalled and reinstalled 9.05 same problem. Weird thing is it works the first time but not the second. Just put the 9.06 update on there and crossing fingers. In the middle of a big session this week. Ughs.

Have you tried the following workaround steps?

Workaround steps:
  • Remove iChat from starting up automatically
  • Reboot
  • Start Pro Tools
  • Go to Setup -> Playback Engine
  • Switch the device you're using to a real one (not Aggregate I/O)
  • Hit OK or whatever to close the window
  • Quit Pro Tools
  • Start Audio MIDI Setup
  • Select the Aggregate I/O device on the left side somewhere
  • Disable all it's in- and outputs on the right side
  • Re-enable iChat
  • Reboot

After this it should work...
