Default Setting up MBOX 3 PRO for Surround

Trying to set up my MBOX 3 PRO for surround but having no luck, how the heck does the MBOX PRO software mixer work ? There is basically nothing in the manual about it and I can't for the life of me get it to route the outputs to the correct speakers !!!

Has anyone got this setup and can tell me how to configure the software mixer in the setup.... ?

It's fine if I want stereo, but as soon as you try to route outputs to the 3/4/5/6 outputs it starts mapping them as stereo pairs... ARRRGGHHH

Ok... got it... typical hours spent banging my head and after I post a question I figure it out :)

Anyway will be good for if anyone else gets stuck like I did if I post up what I did..

In MBOX PRO Setup->Output Setup:
Renamed the Output pairs to my connected speakers;
L/R
Ls/Rs
C/LFE
and ticked Master Vol for all 3

In the main mixer;
1st tab (L/R)
Set to Stereo Mix 1
Set Software Returns 1/2 to 0dB panned hard left and hard right

2nd tab (Ls/Rs)
Set to Stereo Mix 2
Set Software Returns 3/4 to 0dB panned hard left and hard right

3rd tab (C/LFE)
Set to Stereo Mix 3
Set Software Returns 5/6 to odB panned hard left and hard right

Master Fader
Pan Centre
Width dial 100% - hard right

Obviously if you connect the speakers in a different order you need to name them appropriately. In Pro Tools the I/O output config for this order is a 5.1 path with;
L R Ls Rs C LFE

:)

Great info!! Also, if you want to be able to hear all the speakers simultaneously, the "Control Room Assignment" option should be set to "None"

@barakka, I would be interested to see you are managing your IO settings!

Cheers,

Roger

Thank you so much for this. I was afraid I'd have to get another output device, but I'm glad to see I can still use my Mbox Pro 3.

Hi,

Thanks for the post! I am getting the channels to work but my L/R is playing regardless of the channels I assign to.

For example I did a test. A mono track, assigned to center. My center is playing but my L/R is also playing. Maybe my i/o bus is whacked, I just can't seem to figure it out. Any idea?

Thanks.

Ben

Barakka,

Chanel assignments for the Mbox 3 pro are assigned in the I/O page. There you can choose L to go out 1, C to go out 2, R to go out 3..... or however you choose to set up your room.

the mbox pro setup is used for headphone assignment, with the exception of the control room knob set up.

Hope this helps.
