How do I Edit PItch and Volume levels 5.1.1

I have a MBox operating 5.1.1 LE on OS 9 I believe. I am wondering how do you go in on a vocal track and correct pitch issues and give a uniform volume level accross the track.

I have seen it done in a studion but they were using TDM.

any help greatly appreciated

Just found and ran Pitch Shift from the Audio Suite Menu and punched "process" button applied to "playlist" this seems like it just did something?? Not sure.


Didnt change any of the factory settings on the "pitch shift" edit page that popped up. Just hit "playlist" and "process"


did i just fix the whole thing or what?

Pitch shift did nothing if you didn't change any of the settings.

This is not the plug in you are looking for if your looking to fix vocals. That is if your looking to fix notes or whatever that the vocalist did not hit. For that you will need something like Auto Tune or Melodyne. I suggest Melodyne as it does not sound as synthetic as Auto Tune. But its your call on what you like. I don't know if Melodyne will work with 5.1.1 though.

If your just looking to make the voice deeper or higher, pitch shift will work. You have to increase or decrease the semitones to get it deeper or higher.

I use pitch shift for rap clients all the time to get that screwed voice. Or since everyone likes whats his names soldier allot of rappers are asking for just a bit of pitch shift to get just a tad deeper.

Also volume levels can be changed many ways. Of course you can normalize or gain, but both of those are destructive. If the vocals were tracked decently and some parts are just louder than others you can fix that with compression. I find allot of the time a slower attack and a faster release works well with vocals. But thats all relative as you should play around with the compressor and figure out what works the best with what your working on.

I have personally had a fair amount of success using the pitch shift plug-in to fix little pitch problems here and there. The thing is, I don't know if it can be used the same way autotune is used, where the pitch gets automatically adjusted to the proper note. I just use my ear and fine-tune pitchy sections by trial and error.
I do the same thing using the gain plug-in. If there's a small section where one little bit came out a lot louder or a lot softer than the rest of the track, that gain option really comes in handy.
Be aware you may need to do some cross-fading after applying those processes to part of a region, especially if you fix something in mid-phrase.
