Default Re: why does it take protools 5.0.1 so long to load?

I noticed since I have installed 5.01 that it goes out and polls my Glyph drives before the Logo appears.

You'd think there would be some kind of notice telling users that this would happen. The first three times we booted the new version, we thought the computer crashed. Well, now we can go put a pot of coffee on while we wait for the boot.

yes! we have 3 PT 24 / MIX systems running. after the update one system starts as usual, one takes about 20 seconds, and the third one (G3 beige with mix + vintage-farm) takes about 2 minutes, before the digi-startup screen appears. digi-hotline has no idea, why.

Same here, takes around 20 secs before PT-screen starts.... terrible if you need to reboot. By the way, it seems that DAE does not give back the used memory to the mac after PT is shut down. When PT is started up again, it again takes new memory. So when PT is started up and shut down several times a day without rebooting you get problems. Why is this Digi?

Thanks

imperium & Gros & others
I have a G4/400 MAC OS 9.0.4 MIX plus,plus,plus/SC. I launch Pro Tools ver 5.0.1 and have no launch slow down as described. The only difference was this was
a clean install of Pro Tools. Of cource check
the basics. Minimum memory config to PT and DAE set to default( 0 in the minimum and hit return). Disk cache 512k. Anything else you
guys can provide about your systems to
help determine the cause?
imperium: How have you determined that
DAE is not letting go of its allocated memory?

MJ,

I can see this in the 'About this Mac' window... the memory is not returned to the mac...thought this could be a problem and tried starting PT up and shutting it down several times and after a while it crashed.

So you say when you quit Pro Tools,
and view "about this computer"
the largest unused block is not returned to the size before Pro Tools was launched?
please provide info on your system( CPU, OS,
PT system, Memory )

hey digi, just wanted to add to the list.
it takes a good 20-25 sec. to open the pt app.
this did not happen in 5.0 only since updating to 5.0.1. haven't noticed the dae memory issue but i will check from now on.

I timed mine twice. 1 minute 45 seconds to get the startup logo to appear.

9600/300 288 mb RAM
PT Version 5.01
