Default Wake up Digidesign!

I posted this question some time ago "but diddent get any answers":::
I have writen Digidesign a couple of times "also without any luck"

Does any one know who to ask, when Digidesign's support won't answer?

I'm consittering upgrading the CPU on my B/W Mac 450 mhz, to either 900 mhz w.512k L2 cache.. or 1,0 ghz w. 1mb L2 cache....
Now my question is!! will PT 001 LE benefit from a larger L2 cache...

The DUC is great, but I'm sorry to say Digidesign's support sucs!!!!

Thanx

This is the Digidesign USER Conference. The fact that tech support sometimes answers questions on here is just a bonus. I'm terribly sorry that you didn't get any response to your inquiries. Honestly, I wouldn't have anything to add to what you're asking since I don't have any sort of upgrade experiences with the old G4's, but maybe somebody else can help you. I can say that a larger cache will most likely help your performance with a host system.

If you'd like to get into contact with someone at Digidesign, you should try calling them on the phone. Since you're not in the US, you'll need to locate the rep in your area. Good luck.

ANY application will benefit from a larger cache.

Do a search on the topic here, there is plenty of info of how and what to upgrade.

I upgraded my G4/400 with 1.2GHZ sonnett 6 months ago and it works with my 001 just smooth as can be.

DIGI will NEVER answer on such a Question, since it´s out of there range to test every Mac with every Upgrade there is. and then, they ONLY test standart Apple products.

Thanx guys..

Well I diddent expect Digidesign to answer me here on the DUC, therefor when I diddent get any reply's on my post, I wrote directly to Digidesign's Support, but got no answer....

I know they cant test every upgrade, but my question I think diddent go on the opgrade itself, but on wheter DIGI001 uses the L2 cache, witch in my oppignion is a pretty regular and even relevant question...
would be like asking if more RAM would do any good...

Can any of you tell me the diffrence between L1, L2, and L3 cache and what they actually does to the performence of you computer, cos I'm really lost here????

Thanx again

You might try doing some research in a library, bookstore, or on the web for general computing questions. I'm sure there are websites which can give a general explanation of the meaning of terms like front side bus, L1 and L2 cache.

All other things being equal, more L2 cache would likely improve performace. By how much is impossible to guess, you'd need to do some controlled testing.

Yeah...it'll help. But....not nearly as much as a faster bus speed. The 450 is SLOW...even if you drop a 1.4 GHz proc in there, the speed at which the data is moved around will not change.
Once in the processor...yeah, you will see a significant increase in performance.

Depending on what you can find a new/used MDD dual 1.4 for....the money put towards it instead of a proc upgrade for the 450 may be better spent. And....supported by Apple AND Digi far longer than a juiced 450. Just one guys opinion
