Default Recording Pox XT into MBOX2

Hi ,
First off let me say I am new here ( Waves with Cheesy grin) I have searched the forum using the search feature and to my surprise, no answer to my query as I thought it would be fairly common....Ive also Googled with litte success.

I was previously using a hoontech sound card into adobe audition2 and was writing guitar tracks direct into audtion 2 via USB with no problems.

Recently I purchased an MBOX2 and was aware that I would have to take a line out of my POD XT through the MBOX2 as I could no longer write directly via USB to track in Pro Tools.

Ah well how hard could it be to set up I thought? Not that easy it would appear.

I have the left output of the XT going into the "DI" of channel 1.

When I have the "Monitor" VOLUME up it sounds ok , two things have hit me though , firstly there's some kinda high end interference? Secondly when I arm a second track and I turn up "mix" volume to listen and record along with my first track I appear to get a little latency?

Im using a spanking new compatible Dell machine with Dual core pentium " Gig RAM and a compatible Intel chip set I checked ;-) ... so basically Im just looking for some tips if anyone is using a POD xt and MBOX2 together.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

All the best
TRev

Hey Trev M,

Use a smaller buffer setting (128 or 64 if you can) in the DAE setup - I'm not at my DAW so I'm struggling to remember the menu names..it's something like settings...sorry for the vagueness!

As far as the 'high end interference' <insert dumb look> Could be a lead thing...???

Hey Trev,

I don't have an M-Box (1 or 2), I am using an older system called the Digi001. I use my PodXT into my 001 all the time though. Here are a couple of thoughts:

Are you connecting the Pod to the M-Box with a balanced cable? If not, try a cable with TRS (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) connectors. These are the kind you would see on stereo headphones with 2 black rings at the end - not the typical guitar cable that only has one black ring. I use balanced cables and have no interference issues at all.

In the "Operations" menu, there is an item called "Low Latency Monitoring." If that is not 'checked' there can be some latency. Keep in mind, when you are in the Low Latency Monitoring mode, any plug-ins you are using will be disabled. Don't know if that will make a difference for what you are doing.

Hope that helps!

Hi Guys ,
Many thanks for your replys I appreciate that , as it turns out I spent a few hours last night reading anmd watching The Method One DVD. A mix of experimenting and setting up pro tools as suggested made all the difference.

Setting up the buffer as suggested was my first step ....then and here's a strange thing , when I muted the track loaded for recording everything fell in to place......voila , just like that.

With regard to the high end interference? I just took a balanced line out of the headphones, hit the pad on input one into the DI and the tone improved dramatically so Im all sorted.

I was a little concerned cause I had latency free recording with USB connectivity in Audition 2 getting great tones using the PODXT driver. I had an inkling I would have to reset all my patches on the pod but on first take the tones sounded awful and I though all the patches would have to scrapped altogether ,however taking the phones out balanced into the MBOX seems to be the way to go for me.

Cheers once again fellas.

Trev
