Updated to 12.8 - Missing Codec?

Hi all,

Decided to update to 12.8 (non-HD) today and my session keeps getting an error that says Missing Codec for my video. Which is strange because it just worked fine on 12.7.1 and every version before that. Not sure why all of a sudden now its having issues.

Running Mavericks 10.9.5. Eleven Rack... Everything is current and up to date... quicktime installed of course. As mentioned, it was running fine before 12.8, so I wonder if 12.8 removed something? Anyone else experience this? Don't have any other Avid products installed either.

have you tossed your pref's and restarted after the install ??

i saw this once and it was the video itself ..
and there is another thread here for Windows regarding same issue ..

1) what Codec is the Video you are having issues with ??
2) have you re-installed 12.8 .. ??
3) since on a MAC, Re-install 12.71 by renaming 12.8 so it does not get overwritten .. does everything work now ?? (Pro Tools 12.8.0.864)

1 - H264 - which i have been using for years, up until this morning when I went to 12.8
2 - Yes, still the same issue
3 - tried re-downloading 12.7.1 from the site and when i try to mount it- get an error that says " no mountable file system".... frustrated i'm on 12.8 and can't get back to 12.7.1....

So if anyone has a .dmg of 12.7.1 I would be super grateful,

h.264 ... ok i have been testing that yesterday and today .. all good here .. do you need me to upload 12.7.1 to dropbox for you ??

and this H.264 runs fine in QT7 or QT10 ?? and other Codecs all run fine ?? ProRes, DNxHD ..

and you have installed thew Avid Codecs ?? i assume ..

and i know this is for PT11 .. still searching for any PT12 specific solutions

or this i saw as well .. Rename generated video file to have .mov extension

OR it could be an illegal character in the video's Name !!! underscore, commas, etc

OR Permission on the Drive the Video file is on .. try it on the system drive / Movies folder ..

Honestly if you have 12.7.1 that would be incredible. I can't understand how avid doesn't have a working .dmg for me to download... but here I am. Something is up with 12.8 and was always 100% working prior and the only thing I did, was install 12.8. Things like characters, permission, etc. I feel like should also have been issue previous but never were. Ive also installed the codecs and even tried different codecs but I still get the same error... which is very odd. Maybe a OS X mavericks thing?

you should have PT12.7.0 in your Avid Account .. then AAM would do the upgrade to 12.7.1

upload says about 30 minutes .. not very fast upload here .. hit me with a PM so we can do this via email .. last time i posted a link it was not good !! haha ..

and know this AAM might say you need an update and try and re-download and install the same version because you did NOT use AAM to install .. i see that on mine with PT 12.8 right now .. i would have to go through the process again to reset it .. i am asking Avid why this is .. lets se what happens .. it should auto detect ..

the subscription paid, and PT can't use((
