Im interested to hear how this went aswell.
My omni fan noise is generally pretty silent but if the room temperature is over 24 or 25 degrees celsius it defenitly audible.

To the point of unusable if you track in the same room.

If Carbon is noisier that would be a no go for me as i track in the same room.

I know some users got fan noise especially with laptop, but for myself running Carbon with a 2017 iMac and recording 16 tracks all day, ùi never heard the fan.

Did this problem get fixed somehow?
I have a Carbon here now, and the internal fan is way too noisy.
This isn't the Mac fans - I'm using a Mac Pro 7.1 and the fans are all ticking away at their normal, base level.
This is the Carbon fan itself. Even without the Ethernet connected, the fan is distracting. The inputs are all switched to 'line' and are in bypass mode. There's no load on the DSP chips. It's sitting on my desk (not in a rack) with space above and below (raised on 4 improvised feet). Noisy.
The firmware of the Carbon has been updated by PT 2021.3.1 to 1.0.1.1251A.
Is there a later version. Am I just expecting the impossible?

EDIT: from cold, the fan is barely audible for the first 1-2 minutes and after that it cranks up to an unpleasant and intrusive level. Loading up the DSP makes no difference - there only seem to be two levels and it reaches the louder one very quickly. Ambient temperature is 20-21 deg C (68-70F).

Hey Dominic,

We have a fix for this which will be available via firmware update in the next Pro Tools update, which is coming out very soon. I'll send you a private message with more info. Thanks.

After running the Update to 2021.6 and launching Protools it prompted me to update the Carbon firmware.

So... in the latest firmware, is the noise issue resolved? I'm seriously interested in a Carbon, but my space is small and fan noise is definitely an issue in this space. I've worked hard to get my computer almost silent, thanks to huge slow fans, undervolting, and a big fat CPU cooler. If the Carbon is going to make a lot of racket, I'll have to pass...

It's there but I have to put my ear right next to the Carbon to hear it ... My intel iMac makes more noise in my one room system
