No Audio Coming In From Mic ...help

I recorded a couple of songs no problem, the sound was great. I wired the and guitars through my amp, then out the output on the amp and into the 1/8 mic input on my G4. This worked great. Then suddenly when I went to record another song, I didn't get anything. If I turned the gain on the amp up and yelled into the mic I got a severly distorted sound. Same happened when I strummed the guitar very hard. The same sounds that I got when I played and the rec was not enabled, except record WAS enabled and everything was the same.... I checked all my cables, connections and they're not the problem, trashed the prefrences, un-installed, re-installed, and can't get it to work..... does anyone have anything that could help? Thanks.
