Default advice on hiring male vox signal chain.

i need to hire a vox mic and compressor for a male rock singer in the Grant Lee Buffullo/ Screaming tree's style - (strong voice with rich low end).

the pre i already have is a 1272.

There aren't any hire places here so i have to get it from a local studio and they are not going to let me take the u47's or the real classics so its lookin like a u87, u89. On the valve side i could maybe get a Rode Classic or a c12vr but not an original old one.

between the u87/u89, i know a few of the on paper differences but as far as the way they sound on male vox which is the best bet or are they pretty much the same ?

i know the u87 has a larger diaphram and i think that'll be what gets it over the line due to its 'air' but i'd like to hear your opinions considering the 1272 will be the pre.

also, on hiring compressors, LA2A, summit TL100 or Urei 1176 are all available. What do you think ?

thanks,
Ollie.
