This seems to be an isolated case since there haven't been other reports of this issue. So it would seem that there is something wrong with your specific setup. If you have not reinstalled the OS yet, I would do so to rule out OS corruption.
Another thing that we have seen cause really strange behavior is bad RAM. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does it is pretty difficult to track down. So you might try testing your RAM to see if there are any problems there.
