Excellent - I'd kind of expected you'd already have done the things listed in the 'OS X/Pro Tools 6.x setup and general troubleshooting' thread at the top of this forum.
I can get quite a lot working on my PowerBook with 002, even with it set to 'Automatic', but the 'Highest' setting definitely makes a big difference.
