No hotplugging with any Digi interface. Ever. Period. Even just doing it once can cause serious issues within both Pro Tools and your OS.

That being said... I would uninstall Pro Tools again, do a repair disk permissions, reboot, then reinstall Pro Tools. Make sure you DO NOT plug in your MBox until prompted by the installer.
