The spdif port will give you 2 extra inputs if you have a outboard analog-to-spdif converter. I have used my old 16 bit Sony DAT deck for this purpose, but there are many 24 bit devices that will do it better.
BTW, you cannot "chain" ADA converters together to get more inputs into 002. 8 internal inputs, 8 inputs via ADAT format lightpipe, and 2 inputs via RCA spdif is all you're gonna get.
