I would imagine that you would still need a driver that runs on Windows for the HUI translation of the data coming off of the ethernet cable from the controller. So unfortunately I don't think this is a workaround option for PC ProTools 9 users.

...so we sit and wait to see how soon they announce Windows 7 parity. NAMM mid-January perhaps??
