<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">1. Check the compatibility pages or the Best System for PTLE thread for a list of Digi recommended laptops. There is also a thread floating around about laptop performance now.
2. I don't use compact monitors but I like everything that Hafler
www.hafler.com and Adams makes.
3. Depends on how you have it set up. If you are using outboard AD/DA converters and high end preamps there should be no difference. If you are relying on the Digi converters and pres, you should definitely hear a difference. If you don't then there is something wrong.
