Your story points out the problem most of us have at one time or another... a tendency to place mystical qualities to computers and operating systems...almost romantic involvement!

But you were more than helpful, reinstalling the system, which should have done the trick.

I've seen these little cases used in the XPC at Microcenter for a few hundred, and using them does seem like a cool idea, but the motherboard is usually included and a lot of corners are probably cut... by nesscessity.
