640x480? possibly for people editing content for internet streaming...
like protools and audio, all the editors i know who need power on demand (read: clients over their shoulder) still use avids.
which is not to say that FCP isn't awesome and filling out the middle ground (the ever expanding middle ground) but the high ground keeps getting higher...just like PT with HD...there's more and more data to move in video too. High Def and the like.
