Fortunately I sussed out what was wrong (by accident admittedly). Our Midi I/O's are powered purely by USB, so i thought I'd connect up a power supply briefly, and immediately the unit reset itself and was in working order once more. Such a simple problem, but one that stumped me for far too long. Hope this thread helps anyone else in the future.
