Default Re: Newbie can\'t install.... blue screen then crash!!

Ok here's an update- it's not good.
I unchecked the "automatically restart" button. That allows me to actually read the blus screen. More on that in a moment. I also did the DEP fix, though I followed the Microsoft website instruction for that. I still crashed when I tried to activate PTLE.
Here's what the blue screen said...
Among the random attenpts to be helpful was the following line:

*** STOP: OXOOOOOO8E (OXCOOOOOO5, OXOOOOOOOO, OXBAB6A014, OXOOOOOOOO)

and then it goes on & on about it's physical dump of memory. It seems really proud of itself.

This is an AMD 64 chipset by the way, and like another post I recently read, I could find no way of deactivating the Hyper-Threading thing.

As I mentioned, I did try to re-install- twice now, and no change.

In another curious twist, I can no longer get Netscape to activate. Clicking the icon gets no reaction. Is that any hint?

I'll keep poking at it and waiting for more tips, though it is killing me softly!
You guys are great!!! Thanks so much for helping out!!!!!!
