Default Bouncing to .wav format problems

I'm on a G4 Pr Tools Mix Plus system. When
trying all of a sudden to bounce a 24 bit/48 kHz song to a 16/44.1 .wav to burn on Toast, Toast wouldn't recognize the new file! Ahhh!
I intially thought I had accidentally tried to burn a SDII file, but I hadn't. After repeating the process and of course double-checking all of the dialogue boxes, I saved the stereo-interleaved 16 bit, 44.1 kHz to a zip and transfered them to a PC with Wavelab
recognized these so-called .wav files as a Microsoft wave and was able to "save as them" over to regular .wav's. What in tarnation is going on here?
