Provided one choses to follow Digidesign's recommendations (I do), the answers can be found on the company's own compatibility documents. There are links to those pages from the OSX troubleshooting page I mentioned in my post. Of course, folks are always perfectly free to go their own way.

Rereading Digi's applicable (OSX-related, as per the original post) compatiility docs, I can't find a single mention of FWB. But there's plenty of other stuff mentioned. Go figure.
