Default Re: Apogee PSX-100 & Lucid 9624. Which is better?

In order to have great digital, you need to have great analog. There are many converters out there today that are a lot less money than Apogee and claim to be as good. The problem is that from a technical point of view, they can't be unless they are built with the same quality components. I'm not saying that Lucid doens't make good sounding products but if you've ever listened to a PSX100 (and especially the PSX100SE!!!!) then there is nothing to argue. It's the analog design of Apogee that makes Apogee Apogee.... until someone else copies them component for component (and there is one company that I am sure could do that! haha)..... then Apogee is still the only choice for the best sound IMHO. With that said, you don't have to buy Apogee to get a great sounding converter.... but if you do make the investment in Apogee, you get more than your money's worth.
