I'm guessing that may be part, or all, of the problem. Have you tried it without any partitions? Also, you say it has a Mac partition and a 10GB Mac OS Extended partition - what, exactly, is the 'Mac partition'?
A 10GB MacOS Extended partition, out of 160GB total, is not much to work with and is a possible indicator for 9131's (too little drive space available, as measured compared to the entire drive size).
