The AKG 240's are an industry standard and are considered to be great for mixing and getting sounds as they have a "certified" flat response. They are indeed quieter than most other phones. I highly recommend them but if you use them for tracking sessions it might be advisable to make sure everyone on the same headphone send is using them too. The AKG 140's are very similar but are not guaranteed to be flat.
